Finding scholarships

Where scholarships for Nepali students actually come from, and how to apply for them.

1 min read🇨🇦 Canada · 🇦🇺 Australia

Full scholarships are rare and highly competitive. Most Nepali students get partial tuition awards from universities. These are still worth thousands of dollars, and many are automatic.

Where to look

  1. University international merit scholarships: check each school's international scholarships page. Many are automatic based on GPA.
  2. Program- or faculty-specific awards, often listed deeper on department pages
  3. Government-funded schemes: check whether Nepal is currently eligible, and the deadlines.
  4. Regional study incentives (e.g. Australia's regional study scholarships)
  5. Research funding for master's by research and PhD students, usually arranged through a supervisor

Tips

  • Apply early. Many scholarships close months before the intake.
  • Tailor each essay. Generic essays rarely win.
  • A scholarship reduces what you must show, but only if the award letter states the amount.

Legitimate scholarships never ask you to pay a fee to apply or to "release" the award.
